EduResources Weblog--Higher Education Resources Online
This weblog focuses on locating, evaluating, discussing, and providing guidelines to instructional resources for faculty and students in higher education. The emphasis is on free, shared, HE resources. Related topics and news (about commercial resources, K-12 resources, T&D resources, educational technology, digital libraries, distance learning, open source software, metadata standards, cognitive mapping, etc.) will also be discussed--along with occasional excursions into more distant miscellaneous topics in science, computing, and education. The EduResources Weblog operates in conjunction with a broader weblog called The Open Learner about using open knowledge resources across a diversity of subjects, levels, and interests for a wide range of learners and learning communities--students in schools and colleges, home schoolers, hobbyists, vocational learners, retirees, and others.

This January 2003 issue of College and Research Libraries News contains a valuable listing of sites that "provide information for those who would like to learn more about educational technology in general. However, seasoned users of technology may also find them useful."

"College and university librarians have also expanded their roles and have enhanced the faculty-librarian relationship by providing faculty support in the use of educational technology." "Educational technology" is defined as "the use of technology to support or provide education. Many are currently focusing on 'e-learning' or 'online education,' but these are actually subsets. Educational technology can also be used in the classroom and is not limited to distance learning or the Web."

The list includes the ERIC Educational Technology site (http://ericit.org/educationaltechnology.shtml) and MERLOT TWO (Teaching Well Online, http://www.merlot.org/Home.po?discipline=TWO). Both of these sites, and many others, recognize that it is not enough to provide collections of online instructional resources; instructors must also be given support to locate and use the technology contents of instructional repositories.
