I began the EduResources Weblog in November of 2002 as a way to track my reading, ideas, and explorations about online instructional resources. At the same time I was working on collecting and organizing information for an EduResources Portal. This undertaking was part of a nine month sabbatical. I returned to work at Eastern Oregon University this June 2003, but the explorations continue.
The Weblog is designed to range widely across issues related to online instructional resources; the Portal is a gateway to those resources. The Weblog and the Portal are intended to work in parallel.
My goal in creating the Portal was to see if one person could provide a tool that would be useful for faculty who are looking for online instructional resources when developing, modifying, and supplementing their courses. After many months of searching for online repositories, categorizing the search results, and designing the portal, it is now ready for use. Users who consult the EduResources Portal regularly can use this address [http://sage.eou.edu/SPT/SPT--RSS.php] in their news aggregator to get regular, automatic updates whenever News, Announcements, or New Resources additions are made to the Portal.
Anyone reading the EduResources Weblog is also likely to be attracted to the EduResources Portal. I'm especially interested in hearing from instructors and instructional designers who make use of the EduResources Portal. Please take a look and let me know if you have suggestions for additions, corrections, and modifications. I intend to maintain and keep modifying the Portal over the next year and then try to extend and improve the Portal by obtaining research funding to create a team to support the site.
[I'm indebted to the developers of the Scout Portal Toolkit (http://scout.wisc.edu/research/SPT/) for the software tools used in
constructing the EduResources Portal. Also, many thanks to Paula Humfrey, John Nuetzel, Bruce Landon, Scott Leslie, and Vicky York, for helpful comments and discussion about the Portal.]
