Sleep
After their strange meal, Pigmet became tired, as sometimes people do after eating. Geo sat on Black Couch, and Pigmet lay down on the Couch, using Geo’s lap for a pillow. Geo scratched Pigmet like you would a cat. It was hard to know whether to look at him as an animal or a human… Pigmet was pretty darn cute either way! Geo scratched the fur on Pigmet’s schnuzzle, and the fur between his eyes… and on top of his head, and soon he was hearing little furry piglike snores coming out of Pigmet’s mouth.
Geo just stared at the face of his little friend whom he loved so much. He loved Pigmet like a son. He did not exactly remember where and how he knew Pigmet. In another life? On another planet? What was important was that they were both together again. Soon Geo was leaning on Couch’s arm, contending with Pigmet for the best piglike snore that could possibly be made.
Shiara felt like an outsider now. She remembered everything: when Pigmet was born, how he and Geo worked in the garden and built a great greenhouse during the time of the Great 42-year locust. She remembered the sunny days when the Mole, Aster, would bring out his barbecue, and how he and his wife, Ursa, would barbecue scary-looking things, and then invite the humans to dinner! She remembered a love for a woman that was locked in Geo’s heart, which even he had now long forgotten...
She coiled herself up into a pink wisp which moved skyward. But The Voices were not there to talk to… they were off preparing the new planet on which they would all settle and live. And she could not leave the atmosphere of this planet. She was stuck with nothing to do. So she changed into her large flowering shrub form, and watched over Geo and Pigmet as they slept.
