Five emerging technologies to watch - Dec. 1, 2002, ADTmag.com -- What makes an emerging technology take off? This is hard to answer. Some of the most interesting technologies of the day - wireless, automatic code generators, grid computing - have actually bounced around for awhile. When predicting what comes next for any of these a formula must be applied that asks of the technology: Is it in significantly better than present solutions? Is it applied to common problems people have. Is there any imperative - financial or otherwise - that could drive its adoption? Do the vendors that support it have the wherewithal to develop and promote it? Answer these questions, and toss the dice (because luck is somewhere there involved), and you can foretell the technology future.
