Day 1 A single day presents itself regularly. I walk into a spring morning And the ether takes me above. Like an old baseball card attached to a bargain or soda. The Madelines remind of my Midwest. The day is an entity that stuck with me, Conjured itself again and again brilliantly And carried something as an attachment
An April day with the cold sunny air of spring - Around the time of Martin Luther King's assassination. Walking through old uptown Racine. In that month when the city had a curfew. In the poor part of town - Me playing hooky from St Catherine's study hall. Finished more or less with the work of school waiting for the next step. In holding tank mode. In the fall to go to some college. Walking in the morning.
The day will come back to me now and with it the scent of fresh mowed dirt in the air from out county. I played the autodidact. I studied Claude Shannon with the Velvet Underground as context.
