Howard
Armstrong
Briefly, but indelibly, blues mandolinist-fiddler Howard Armstrong
became a part of the Boston music scene in his last years. He brought
a total musical and artistic sense to play - mixing and jumping from cowboy
music to spirituals to country or blues, and he could draw. I recall his
appearance on Hillbilly at Harvard. We're going to do John Henry the Steeldriving
man who died with his hammer in his hand, but, he told the band, it is
not a funeral march, so 'Step it up and go.' Armstrong
died this week here in Boston.
