Notes on the Grid: It’s a network problem The power grid provided a quick analogy for the computer grid. In this vision computational jobs are moved about and handled as needed, much as electric power is pushed about the grid based on real-time requirements. Like most software analogies, the mapping between hype and reality is incomplete. Such analogies can be useful for communicating concepts, yes, but they can also be useful for creating half-truths for purposes of obfuscation. Would have liked to have added commentary regarding organizational networks such as NASA, but was too much for this frame to hold. Read on Adtmag |

Universal Sigh: Close to a B Flat Newly uncovered sound waves are thought to have been produced by explosive events occurring around a supermassive black hole in Perseus A, the huge galaxy at the center of a cluster. The pitch of the sound waves translates into the note of B flat, 57 octaves below middle-C.This frequency is over a million billion times deeper than the limits of human hearing, so the sound is much too deep to be heard, and we have a lot of evolving to do.
