What's the value of reputation?. Howard Reingold points to a study titled The Value of Reputation on eBay: A Controlled Experiment by Paul Resnick, Richard Zeckhauser, John Swanson, and Kate Lockwood.
As expected, the established identity fared better. The price difference was 7.6% of the selling price.
