Facets everywhere!
Facet Analytical Theory: Managing Knowledge Structures for Humanities Research underway at the University College London. From the site, "Facet analytical theory (FAT) is a novel method of indexing which deals with individual simple terms. It builds up a map of subjects "bottom-up" by clustering terms in a systematic way, rather than as a linear sequence. This research project will investigate the potential role of FAT in the development of the knowledge structure of multi-dimensional networks of subject terms for use with digital collections." Is it coincidence that once I start investigating the usefulness of FAT that I start seeing it everywhere? (what's the name of this particular phenomenon?). I can understand seeing facet-related links when I'm investigating blogs about Information Architecture but when the subject creeps into my regular blog reading (the link above) then I take especial notice. Here's another mention of FAT that makes me suspect that this subject is on the verge of some sort of breakout.
