Enjoy! 4:57:49 PM     Library Terms That They Understand The purpose of this site is to help library web developers decide how to label key resources and services in such a way that most users can understand them well enough to make productive choices. It serves as a clearinghouse of usability test data evaluating terminology used on library web sites, listing terms that tests show are effective or ineffective labels. It presents alternatives by documenting terms that are actually used by libraries. It also suggests "best practices" for reducing cognitive barriers caused by terminology. Language is such a battlefield for library website designer because librarians strive for both accessibility and accuracy. I know that I'm going to check back here again because we always tend to revisit our choice of words on our library's website. On this related note, the libraries of the University of Alberta used to have the phrase What are you researching" as a heading over a list subjects. They've changed that to Browse by subject. I wonder why?   4:56:07 PM
