Every once in awhile, I just can't help reacting to an article I read...

Intelligent Enterprise normally edits their stuff, but I think Michael J. Hudson's article, The Web Services Placebo, slipped through.  The author's main point seems to be that web services are suited only to B2B scenarios and that they must be shoehorned into EAI scenarios - primarily because of their verbose encoding format (XML), poor protocols (HTTP, SMTP), and lack of support for asynchronous and peer-to-peer interaction between web services.  [more]
