I've Had My Say

Have you had yours?

I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine and sit back to watch history unfold. This is probably the most important election I've ever voted in. I don't know how close it's going to be, but I think we're in for a long night before the outcome is clear.

If you were eligible and didn't vote, shame on you. People are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for a right that we take so cavalierly. But then again, if you don't care enough to vote then I probably would feel better off if you didn't have a say in how this country is run.

It angers me that a cruel murderous fiend half way around the world thinks that he can influence this election by offering "security" to those states who don't vote for Bush. I don't think that such an "offer" should influence the way anyone votes, regardless of who you support. As Benjamin Franklin said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." I think that bin Laden's screed against America reveals that he has absolutely no understanding as to what this country is about. But that doesn't prevent his hatred from being directed our way.

So, I'll sit here tonight and watch the returns and listen to the pundits have their say. In the end the only poll that counts is the one taken in voting booths around this country. I pray that this country makes the right choice. If it's not the guy I support, then I hope I'm wrong about who should be in the White House. The world is at a very dangerous crossroad right now.

File under The Presidential Election.
