Thursday, March 20th, 2003 Abnormal smoke plumes near Basra
Labeled image is here. There appears to be some activity in the oil fields south of Basra. While there are normally small plumes from these fields due to natural gas burnoff, these appear significantly larger, darker, and hotter than normal. There is also a new large plume from west of the city of Basra itself. These images are from 10 GMT (5am EST), posted at 8am ET.
