Extreme switch packs speed, reliability. Extreme Networks this week is expected to launch new switch chassis aimed at letting users link wiring closets directly to the LAN core via 10G Ethernet, while providing low latency and five-nines connectivity for IP phones, PCs and other network devices at the LAN edge. Intel to double cache size of Xeon MP chips. When it comes to Intel's server processors, cache is king. A server roadmap posted on the company's Web site indicates that Intel plans to double the amount of on-chip memory available on the Xeon processor MP, which is designed for use in 4-way servers.
