A good review on the real world Internet capabilities of PDA's and Cellphone's. My NX80V didn't make the review however. I cruise the Internet with it using Sony's Wireless LAN Card (PEGA-WL110). While not an ideal setup, it does work at any open wi-fi hotspot (I've only tried 2 so far, and one is here at home :) Internet surfing with PDA's and Cellphone's is still definitely in it's infancy, but based at least on what I'm using, it looks like a bright future ahead.

Since I had some recent posts regarding both Blogpatrol and Opera, I thought that it might be interesting to list some of the site statistics for my this weblog that I have been looking at recently.

Operating Systems in use;

  1. Windows XP - 61% (the opiate of the masses)
  2. Windows 2000 - 18% (the old opiate)
  3. Windows 98 - 8%
  4. Macintosh - 6% (go Mac!!)
  5. Linux - 3% (go Linux!!)
  6. Other - 2% (other? what other? Windows 3.1? Unix?)
  7. Windows NT - 1%
  8. Windows 95 - 1%

Web Browsers in use;

  1. MS Internet Explorer 6 - 72% (more opiate!)
  2. Netscape Navigator - 15% (and you hear that Netscape is dead!)
  3. MS Internet Explorer 5 - 9% (this must be those Windows 98 users)
  4. Opera - 2% (go Opera!! download Opera!!)
  5. Other - 1% (there are a bunch of them out there, but most people use IE6 because it's already loaded when you buy a computer)
  6. MS Internet Explorer 2 - 1% (gotta be Web TV :)

So what do I get from all of this? Well, it definitely looks like a Windows World out there, but I still have some hope for the underdogs! (as you can tell from my comments :) And while it's a little hard to change operating systems, it's very easy to change web browsers. Try out Netscape or Opera (or some other) and you may find yourself never going back to Internet Explorer!

It's amazing how much the Internet has transformed our lives in ways that you don't even notice / think about. My buying paint for my spare bedroom today is just one example. In the old days, I would have had to go down to the hardware store and look through a bunch of color charts and pick out a color based on just one small color chip and hope that the looked the same as the chip once it was up on the wall. Now you can just go to any paint companies web site, and pick out any hue your heart desires. They actually show how the color will look in rooms and give you complimentary accent colors as well. They even give you paint calculations to estimate the amount needed. Then you can print out the whole project and take it down to the paintstore and get it mixed up. Just 10 years ago (hell, maybe even 5 years ago) this wasn't possible. Now I don't even stop to think about something like this, it has become such an ingrained part of life. Just freaking amazing.
 Gas
I don't know how it snuck up on me, but I just noticed today that gas prices have risen back up to $2.00 a gallon during this past week. They don't even have the courtesy to charge $1.99 9/10, they just blew by it and stuck the $2.00 up on the board. Probably to get us used to the shock when they raise prices even higher this coming week. Jeepers!
