A pretty good article on the future of e-books. While Barnes and Noble has recently shut down it's e-book business, I still think that there is a future for the products if everything works out right. I've tried a few of the portable e-book readers (usually borrowed from people sitting next to me on planes) and also have a couple of e-books on my computer and PDA (on the PDA through Palm Digital Media). While they are all right, the main problem that I have with them is being tied down. I can read a chapter on my computer, but reading a whole book is just too much sitting and staring at a screen. On my PDA, the screen is just too small for prolonged reading, although for certain things it is great; AvantGo and travel guides (I just downloaded one about Hawaii) and magazines can take you a long way when sitting on a plane or in airports.
