I wrote last month about the power outages that occur around my neighborhood. Well, we had another one yesterday. I had come home for lunch, and was eating a sandwich and watching TV, when all of a sudden the power goes off. I think it's no big deal, so I read the newspaper instead. I go to leave but you know what? My garage door opener won't work because the power is out. Now normally this would be no problem as there is a keyed manual release. The problem is that of the two sets of keys that I have for this, one set is at work and the other set is in my car, in the closed garage. I go back in the house and decide to call the office and have someone drive the keys over, but... you guessed it, all of my phones are cordless and the power is out! What about my cell phone? It's also still in the car, in the closed garage. The neighbors are not home, so I can't ask to use their phone either. I guess that I could have walked up to the fire station and asked, but I say the hell with it and just wait it out for an hour until the power finally goes back on. Jeez... people were teasing me that I had gotten locked IN the house :)
Although the power had gone back on there were still some power problems in the neighborhood. The traffic light at the corner was out and cars were screeching brakes all night long. It must have been some blowout, because I counted over 6 different HECO trucks in the area during a walk around the complex.
