"Lunch Hour" is an original linocut by Marc Snyder. This piece is an original relief print by Marc Snyder, number 4 in an edition of 20. It is printed on BFK Rives, a beautiful archival printmaking paper. The relief process is linocut, in which a relatively soft piece of linoleum is cut and inked, with the black areas of the print being the uncut portions of the linoleum. It is signed in pencil with "Lunch Hour 4/20 Marc Snyder 2004". The image area is 6.75" x 9" and the paper size is 10.25" x 12". This is an original print, not a reproduction. Unlike a reproductive print, this image was conceived and executed solely as a relief print - it is not a reproduction of an artwork originally made in another medium, such as a painting or a drawing. The linoleum was cut and printed by hand by the artist. Each print in the edition of 20 is subtly different, as each is inked and printed individually, with great attention being given to the quality of the print. Each print is considered the original work of art. Once the edition is printed, the matrix (the lino-block) is discarded. It is NOT the artwork - it's the artist's tool for MAKING the artwork. If you would like to learn more about original prints, I hosted a workshop on the eBay workshop boards, The Art of Original Printmaking , in which I discuss and illustrate the major processes involved in fine art printmaking. In this image I tried to capture the energy you find anywhere in a city. I've been working a lot with cityscapes, but this one is a bit different - instead of using the deep space and distant vanishing point of a city street, I've put the viewer right on the sidewalk with a bunch of folks - this image is much more of a celebration of that environment than the previous linocuts, perhaps.
