Props to Ingeniweb

I forgot to mention...Olivier and the fine folks at Ingeniweb are running my ZEA site. I like working with others that share the same vision, that together we'll all find success. Jean-Rene Vidaud from Ingeniweb really convinced me of this point the first time I participated in their tradeshow booth. He's probably the best booth presence I've ever worked with.

(Note: if anything on the ZEA site is screwed up, it's my fault, not there's. :^) Full disclaimer.)

Robert, fighting the apocolypse

Robert "zwark" Boulanger at BlueDynamics wrote a wonderful call-to-arms about TCPA. And the little man, or better the above mentioned 90% of blind people will accept this. So we can be sure that TCPA will come. Thats sure as the "amen" is at the end of the church. Amen indeed.

As Robert said, these TCPA vendors are going to force a choice on you: do you want "security", or do you want open source? I counter, do you want "managed freedom" (tyranny) or personal freedom?

Always remember: "La majorite c'est vous!" Man, I love that photo!

Working with others, ain't it a blast!

Yesterday, Stephan and I started working on getting our first snapshot of Moztop ready. I remembered that Sidnei had contributed to the Moztop effort from April 2002, so I asked him if he'd like to do a checkout and put his name in the credits.

He joined us in #moztop and, within 30 minutes, had added a tabbed dialog box for the "About Moztop" menu entry. We all decided that Gus and Jan were generating cool icons, so we emailed them for some Moztop icons. Even though it was 2AM there, they too joined us in IRC.

At that point, we had an ad-hoc workgroup kicking ass from Brazil to Australia.

That's the real deal, Neil. That's what I'm in this Zope thing for. Nobody told them to do it. Instead, they wanted to do it, even if it meant losing a night of sleep. People usually don't care like that about their real job.

You can see the result in a screenshot done by Stephan. Icons and logo are from Gus and Jan, the tabbed "About Moztop" is from Sidnei, 90% of everything else is from Stephan. And me? Uhh, I just baked the cookies. :^)

More on Moztop later today....

Edd Dumbill praises Plone

As first reported on Zope Newbies, Edd Dumbill is now using Plone: "Over the holiday break I worked on a relaunch of one of my existing web sites, using plone, a content management system based on Zope. I'm very impressed! Combined with my modest Zope skills, I've been able to get an impressive amount of work done in a short time. " (Note: Edd is the managing editor of XML.com.)
