Upcoming Plone Foundation board electionsLast week I was on the election committee for the OSCOM.org. This week starts the same thing for the Plone Foundation. On Wednesday, once we get a few pending memberships cleared up for voting, we'll open the floor for nominations. The election will be conducted in conjunction with the 4th annual Plone Conference.I hope we get some strong candidates for the Plone Foundation board. Plone is one of the top open source projects, but we still need some guidance and governance, especially during the coming year. I particularly hope the board gets good representation across its constituencies (customers, developers, consulting companies, etc.) And when the PF membership reviews the nominees, we should keep this diversity of interests in mind when casting our votes. Just as a side example of the vibrancy of the Plone community...in conjunction with the voting process, the membership committee (Godefroid and Hanno) sent an email asking folks to renew their membership (per the bylaws). Within 1 day, 38 people had done so. That's a darn good sign in two ways: not just the 38 "we cares" within a day, but that we actually have a membership committee that took responsibility in the process. 9:52:51 AM ![]() |
Look ma, it's an updated Zope bookI just chatted with Philipp von Weitershausen, the well-known cardinal of Zope 3. He just submitted the final text for the second edition of "Web Component Development with Zope 3". I did some reviewing on this before I cowardly backed out of my commitment to help. The update is excellent in several different ways: extremely current, features from Rocky Burt regarding comparison to Java, deep technical review, and improved word-smithing.Look for publication later this year. Congrats, Philipp! 9:32:34 AM ![]() |
Webinar tomorrow with Optaros and AlfrescoTomorrow (Tuesday, Sept 25) I am on a webinar hosted by Optaros entitled "Ask the Experts Your Questions About Open Source Content Management Solutions". Seth Gottleib, Matt Asay, John Eckman, and I will field some questions mailed in and brought up during the session. I was asked to talk from the perspective of Plone as well as my experience in WOTUS (world outside the United States). I also asked if I could mention a bit OSCOM and my experience hanging out with others in the open source content management space. If you're interested in the software ecosystem of open source CMS, or the business models and issues, come chat with us and make your voice heard! 9:27:04 AM ![]() |
