I'm back at work today. Finally finished painting the big girl room yesterday after a typical pick a color you’re not happy with so you have to do primer then another coat, then some of the darker original color has bled through so you have to do extensive touch up paint job.
Anyway, I’m wondering if the slate design will ever be considered a true replacement to the laptop. It might be considered a replacement to the subnotebook, but I’m very reluctant to use this thing at work or home without the doc. It’s a pain to write extensively without a keyboard.
So the argument might be that you just want to do certain things like meetings and taking notes with the slate and when you get back to your “desk” you’d have the dock. The problem is that I’m going to need 2 docks, one at home and one at work to be effective. Make that 2 power cords as well, why should I lug 2 extra pounds around? These powercords shouldn’t be an afterthought. Lots of engineering goes into the form factor of the machine itself, these powers upplies and cords shouldn’t be an after thought. One of the funniest points of a meeting to me is the cord-winding session everyone goes through.
One of the uses that should be do able on the slate is watching a dvd. With the dvd on the dock, the tablet gets beat by the Ti-book when I want to watch a dvd in bed, or anywhere other than the desk for that matter.
Seems like if this tablet wants to be the replacement of the notebook, its going to have more of the best features with the best of the mobility. Otherwise, it’s just another pda on crutches.
