AOL looking out for number one

As most of you probably already know, AOL has patented instant messaging. It's not clear if they intend to move on companies like Microsoft and Yahoo, but given their behaviour in the past, is there really any doubt? In honor of AOL's anticompetitive jois de vivre and through sophisticated techniques of digital grading, forced perspective and complex animatronics, I've adopted the Trillian monkey Stanley as my blog mascot. Don't be alarmed, AOL, he's just a harmless plague monkey.

Calling all Apache members...

I'm researching the events leading up to the formation of Apache Commons. Now that I'm a member, I have access to the mailing list in question, but the ezmlm archive only seems to have email headers from July 2002 onward, and it does not seem to retain message bodies for posts as recent as September 16th.

Would some kind soul enlighten me? I'm particularly interested in the threads "Upgrading Jakarta Commons" and "new Commons project proposal", but also any other posts you think are relevant. Opinions are good, facts are better, and whole threads would be fantastic. Actually, if you are feeling lazy and you have a convenient means of export, you could just send me your entire members list archive, since there are other subjects in there I would read if I could.

Some have claimed that only boring stuff gets discussed on the members list, but some of the past subjects look pretty important. Hrm, here's a thread starting in August called "DB PMC [was Re: EJBs and Apache...]". Ironic that the PMC is being discussed on the members list, since there are DB PMC members who are not Apache members (AFAIK neither Thomas Mahler nor Rodney Waldoff are members). It would be funny, if it weren't so damn irritating.
