I've wanted to post about my Keurig Home Brewer (coffee maker) for sometime now. I just haven't gotten around to it before now.
Here goes...
I first saw/heard about Keurig at my girlfriend's office. They had a Keurig Brewer and I was just amazed by it.

Keurig is a single cup brewing system.

They package and sell coffee in little individual containers (cups) that they call "k-cups". They offer over 80 coffee and tea choices in these little k-cups (50 for the home brewer). Of course better selection is always a good thing but I've found coffees and teas that I really like out of the 80 types they do offer which run the spectrum from very light to very dark and include flavored coffees and teas.

Here's how it works (from a user's point of view).

First, stock a variety of the k-cups and keep them next to the brewer.
Next, you walk up to the brewer, pick a coffee or tea and place it into a holder that slides forward out from the brewer. You push the holder back, and place your coffee mug under the nozzle.
You press a single button on the machine and you get a perfect cup of coffee, any variety, any time.
The coffee dispenses in seconds, literally. The machine constantly keeps the water at the right temperature. It's always fresh and good, and it's always hot.

According to Keurig, the brewer uses only as much power as an ordinary light bulb.
The coffee never sits in a pot.
3 or 30 different people can have 3 or 30 different types of coffee all at the same time.
It's fun to use.
It really is amazing.

And the best part of this story is that only months after I saw the Keurig brewer for the first time, they made a home model that has all of the important features of the office brewer. I bought one, I've had it for months now, and it's great. I like it as much now as I did the first day I used it.

Coffee is one of those things that I never could make at home. It never tasted as good to me when I made it. Maybe for no other reason than because I was the person making it. Also, I always had to make almost a full pot even if I wanted only a little because the coffee never seemed to taste as good if I reduced the amount of water and/or amount of coffee I used to make a smaller amount.

So, I love my Keurig Home Brewer and I highly recommend it to anyone who really likes coffee/tea,
or loves great solutions like this and drinks coffee/tea,
or anyone planning on purchasing a coffee maker.

The k-cups cost about $13.00 for 25 or about 50 cents each. A single serving is enough for one cup (mug) of coffee. I would say that two mugs is probably the equivalent of a 'Starbucks-like' serving, so two k-cups would be $1.00.

It's certainly not the cheapest coffee in the world but
it's less expensive than buying coffee out,
it's conveniently in your home or office and so always available,
there is no waste,
and there is no faster way to make a cup of coffee (including standing in line for one at a coffee place like Starbucks).

By the way I'm not trying to take anything away from Starbucks or your favorite cafe but when you can't be there you might be at home or at work (that's when you really want/need a perfect cup of coffee or tea) and this is a great thing.

I recommend it very highly.

This is my Thank You Bubble.

Thank You, Heather Martian
Thank You, Jenn Martinelli
Thank You, Mac OS X/BSD UNIX
Thank You, The Magazine Industry

Thank You, The Simpsons, Futurama, The Family Guy (How'd you get so smart?)

Thank You, Boston, after Syracuse and Buffalo I needed you desperately.

This is my Thanks for Nothing Bubble.

I know it's crass. These things are important to me but also I don't want to waste a lot of time on most of them.
Whether I write them down or not I carry them around in my head so why not just write them down.

Thanks for Nothing, RELIGION for thousands of years of oppression; ignorance and outright stupidity; seemingly limitless death, violence and destruction; hate and isolation. Real hope, even salvation doesn't carry so high a price.

Thanks for Nothing, Microsoft
Thanks for Nothing, Apple Computer/Steve Jobs
Thanks for Nothing, the Boston T
Thanks for Nothing, Boston's Musuem of Science

Thanks for Nothing, SUNY Buffalo/The SUNY Buffalo Classics department (by the way if anyone from SUNY Buffalo sees this please take me off of your alumni mailing list.)

Thanks for Nothing, Harvard University, for being irresponsibly short-sighted in every way that doesn't mean more money for your endowment or padding for your reputation. There are more important things.

Thanks for Nothing, George W. Bush (Thanks for Nothingr father too). For ruining America at precisely the wrong time.

Thanks for Nothing, Ronald Regan you brain dead piece of shit, for helping to ruin my life by making me fear for my future and the world around me when I was growing up.

Thanks for Nothing, My parent's generation for passing on your inadequacies, self-doubt, fear... and not much else. Your children are your responsibility. It's is your obligation to pay for their education because their future is your debt. If you are so vain as to think that in a world of 6+ billion people there is some need for you to procreate then you had better be prepared to pay the price.

Thanks for Nothing, The Republican Party, for taking advantage of the general population's stupidity to your own advantage.

Thanks for Nothing, the Democratic Party, for being too incompetent to figure out how to help the general population in spite of our collective stupidity.

Thanks for Nothing, Arnold Schwarzenegger, for taking out your frustrations over your pathetic movie career on this country.

Thanks for Nothing, California (see Thanks for Nothing Arnold Schwarzenegger)

Thanks for Nothing, The people of Boston and Boston politics, for doing your best to ruin a truly great city.
