DerSpiegel: "Washington society has been chattering about the risk of war with Tehran. It's an open secret that Vice President Dick Cheney has made bombing plans, but even high-ranking military experts think an attack would lead to world economic chaos, or even what George W. Bush calls 'World War III'.
In the scenario concocted by Cheney's strategists, Washington's first step would be to convince Israel to fire missiles at Iran's uranium enrichment plant in Natanz. Tehran would retaliate with its own strike, providing the US with an excuse to attack military targets and nuclear facilities in Iran.
The notion of war with Iran has spilled over into other circles, too. Last Monday Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the US House of Representatives, made it clear that the president would first need Congressional approval to launch an attack. Meanwhile, Republican candidates for the White House have debated whether they would even allow such details to get in their way. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said he would consult his attorneys to determine whether the US Constitution does, in fact, require a president to ask for Congressional approval before going to war. Vietnam veteran John McCain said war with Iran was 'maybe closer to reality than we are discussing tonight'.
Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has also adopted a hawkish stance, voting in favor of the Senate measure to classify the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. Her rivals criticized Clinton for giving the administration a blank check to go to war.
The US military is building a base in Iraq less than 10 kilometers (about six miles) from Iran's border. The facility, known as Combat Outpost Shocker, is meant for American soldiers preventing Iranian weapons from being smuggled into Iraq. But it's also rumored that Bush authorized US intelligence agencies in April to run sabotage missions against the mullah regime on Iranian soil.
Because the catastrophic consequences of an attack on Iran are obvious, many in Washington have a fairly benign take on the current round of saber rattling. They believe the sheer dread of war is being used to bolster diplomatic efforts to solve the crisis and encourage hesitant members of the United Nations Security Council to take more decisive action."
With the madmen in the White House anything is possible. And what is worse is that the Clintons are in cahoots with them. It is simply a matter of power over the region and the resulting chaos would not be a consideration for them.
Enticing Israel to do the dirty job would be against the Jewish interests. It is clear that if Israel attacks Iran the repercussions for Jews all over the world would be terrible. Does Bush care about Israel or the Jews? Not in the least.

Speculation about a US-backed Israeli or a direct American attack on Iran's nuclear installations has ebbed and flowed for several years. In the immediate aftermath of the toppling of Saddam Hussein, 'Iran next' was the stock refrain of the Washington hawks. The bellicose rhetoric was stilled for a time by Iraq's descent into chaos. But it has never gone away, even as some of the most ardent advocates of another war in the Middle East have left the administration. Only the other day I heard John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, say he was sure that Mr Bush would do 'the right thing'."
Some media seem to be obsessed by the idea that Bush's concern is the nuclear reactor of Iran and its undemocratic regime. These don't matter at all. They are excuses. The US has supported (and created) all dictatorships that have adopted a neocon economy that favours the US. The aim was clear for decades: to create a US controlled ring from Syria to Pakistan, thus controlling Russia and China.
So Bush is actively messing with the interests of Russia and China. If Bush has the temerity to attack Iran, it is highly likely that Russia and China will retaliate, maybe not militarily (though they could - one nuclear bomb on Tel Aviv and the matter would be settled), but they could simply drop all support of the US dollar (taking Saudi Arabia with them) and plunge the whole Western hemisphere in a deep economical and social crisis. The Armageddon could be in America.
