ABC: "A Dutch filmmaker who had received death threats after releasing a movie criticizing the treatment of women under Islam was slain in Amsterdam on Tuesday.
A suspect, a 26-year-old man with dual Dutch-Moroccan nationality, was arrested after a shootout with officers that left him wounded, police said."
The Moroccan community has called for a general protest against this act of senseless violence.
Theo van Gogh was a true Amsterdammer, outspoken, honest; you could see him regularly cycling by in the centre of Amsterdam; when you saw him at a cinema he always had a word for you. It's a sad, very sad day.
