Yesterday I made a long walk from my house to Fort Nigtevecht, over the river Gein. The Fort is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and was built from 1880 to 1903. The Defence Line is recognized by UNESCO as a monument of world heritage.
The Fort is situated right below the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal (see picture). At a tropical temperature of over 30°C at least the splashing of the waves against the embankment provided a deceptive sense of coolness, But hey, we Dutch only feel at home when we hear the splashing of water.
