Today I watched (on Dutch tv) the splendid performance of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante by Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Nothing better to begin the festivities and the listening marathon I have embarked on with the complete works. One disc a day.
"Barenboim and the late Edward Said set up the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in 1999, an ensemble bringing together talented young Israeli and Palestinian musicians, which the conductor himself described as an 'orchestra of peace' and which gave a concert in the West Bank town of Ramallah last August."
