Social Networking Crap

i've stopped using orkut, linkedin, and some of the similar-in-scope social networking communities that aspire of connecting people via a "who do you know? can i befriend a friend of yours too?" model.

which means that if you'd like to reach me, you'd better send me email directly or leave a message here. it's not that i don't like participating in online communities of one kind or another - i very much do, and i still indulge in conversations across the web, as i traverse the blogosphere and other communication fora. unfortunately though, time constraints have risen dramatically these days and i'm thus unable to continue checking messages at tens of virtual homes. it's pratically impossible for me to spend two or three hours a day in order to keep myself accessible via those fora.

in this regard, the title of this post is somewhat misleading and inappropriate to convey what i feel. it's not that social software doesn't work for me or that my failth in the Semantic Web has been shaken- on the contrary, i hope one day social software will make my life easier by enabling me to drastically cut down on time i spend administering several different email accounts, collecting at one place all rss feeds, and, essentially, making the daily task of homesteading the cyber noosphere more fun and less time-consuming. what i need boils down to the elimination of time consuming activites through a socio-technological interop of disparate online sommunities (or social networks if you prefer that term). till that day comes, given the inherent trade-off, i'll stick to those communities that serve my interests best.
