Road Rage on the Information Super Highway
"Later on, in jail, George Doughty said he realized that shooting his laptop computer was wrong but that it seemed like a good idea at the time. Doughty, who runs a bar/restaurant in Lafayette, Colorado, shot the varmint after it crashed once too often, then hung it on the wall like a moose head. He was jailed on suspicion of felony menacing, reckless endangerment (there were patrons present) and the prohibited use of weapons. "It's sort of funny, because everyone always threatens their computers," said police Lt. Rick Bashor, moments before his own computer froze at headquarters."

VS 2003 AutoImplement Found the coolest VS 2003 feature today. When you type the name of and interface (C#) that a class implements, such as:
public class MyClass : MyInterface
You can press TAB and the interface stubs will automatically be added to your class. Nice! No more "sync class view, sync class view, open member lists, right click, select implement interface," just one click and you are done.

Macromedia Redesign Macromedia updated their site today... front page is loaded with advertisements about using Macromedia for user experience. Funny thing is that the page is sooooo slow that the user experience is 10x worse than the experience was before they converted everything to flash.

Professors Dora Costa of MIT and Matthew Kahn of Tufts point out that it depends on exactly when you asked the question. As incomes have risen, so has the value of life. The increase is more than proportional: A 10 percent rise in income is generally associated with about a 15 percent rise in the value of a life. Between 1940 and 1980, according to Costa and Kahn, the value of a life increased from about $1 million 1990 dollars to between $4 million and $5 million 1990 dollars."

70% Code Reduction in ASP.NET 2.0
"The ASP.NET team is working hard on the 2.0 features right now. But, don't expect any public bits released for quite some time - *at least* 4 months or more would be my guess. I'm sure more information (and featured rumors too) will be leaked as we get closer to the summer.
Let me also clarify Rob's statement on the 70% less code. One of the teams *goals* is to reduce the code needed in v2.0 by 70% over v1.0. Rob did not promise or gaurantee that they would hit that goal.
Is this a lofty Goal? Yes!!
Will they be able to achieve it? Only time will tell. However, this isn't the first lofty goal they've set for themsleves and they have a track record of delivering - their achievements in v1.0 is proof of that.
Personally, I think a 25% - 35% code reduction would be awesome!

Mom and Pop A bit of controversy regarding VB programmers is circulating right now in blog land... I have to agree with Tim on this one though... Generally, there are a lot of mom-and-pop VB programmers out there who only have jobs because the general population is so ignorant when it comes to the IT industry and coding practices. Even Alan Cooper (the "father of VB") agrees with that.

Yet another show from MS...but unlike the rest, it's bi-weekly. MSDN has really been putting out a lot more audio and video recently, which is really nice to see. Articles are great, but some times multimedia can get the point across a lot better.
