They may seem to be an unlikely pair but a research article in April Neurology Journal suggests that frequent headache is associated with a variety of sleep disorders. Researchers surveyed 206 people who reported an average of 260 days with headaches a year, and a comparison group of 507 people who reported an average of 24 days of headache. Twenty-four percent of the headache group said they always snored, compared with 14 percent of the other group. When the figures were adjusted for factors like body weight and alcohol use, people with chronic headaches were more than twice as likely to be habitual snorers.
The research suggests that taking steps to reduce the snoring such as losing weight, reducing alcohol consumption and learning new sleep positions could affect the frequency of headaches.
