The National Institute on Mental Health Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) is sponsoring a national conference on autism from November 19-20, 2003, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Programs will build on the work of an expert panel of scientists that responded to a congressional request for a "roadmap" to identify and advance high-priority research goals. Federal officials, researchers, and community members will discuss such topics as genetics, epidemiology, and early intervention.
There are three major components to the meeting: biomedical, clinical screening and life-span services for autism. The biomedical section will address autism research and diagnosis, causes, neuroscience and treatment. The screening component will review existing screening instruments and implementing practices in the community including relevant research and current clinical practices. The third major theme looks at ways to integrate autism services throughout the lifespan. Topics will review salient issues for those living with autism, including fragmented services provided by educational and other systems.
The agenda is available in pdf format and the IACC has set up a webcast for the meeting to be webcast live as well as archived for later viewing.
