You might find this useful. I don't use Safari that often, and even when I do, it's only for generic sites. I've not found Safari completely useful for all the sites I visit.
I found that Safari has been slowing down and I would see the spinning cursor for several seconds every time I open a page. Thankfully This tip from Mac OS X Hints solved it. [MacMegasite]
