OSXGuide.com points at a couple of Apple.com articles on iSyncing your Palm with OS X over Bluetooth and how to get your Palm and OS X synching in a more traditional fashion for those of you who hadn't gotten around to this yet.

Ross Barkman has updated his package of GPRS modem scripts for using your Nokia handset as a modem from Mac OS X (per the instructions on MobileWhack or otherwise).

(Finding anything on Ross's page is, unfortunately, less than straightforward; search for "Updated May" or click here to download the May 2004 package.)

Scripts for Nokia GPRS phones (73kB): Nokia GPRS Scripts - Updated May. 2004 with a few minor tweaks and an improved ReadMe. These scripts work with models such as the 3650, 6310i, 6600 and 7650, and should work with all other current Nokia GPRS models. The previous scripts are still in the package, since the new versions do not work with older models including the 6310.

(And while you're there, buy Ross a pint for his trouble--you'll find a "Thanks, Ross" link at the top of the page.)

Recently a security bug was reported in Safari. Clicking on certain URLs could cause a script to run on your machine.

Sylvain Carle alerted us to the fact that this security bug is not really a Safari bug, it’s a bug in WebKit.

WebKit is Safari’s rendering system, provided by Apple as part of OS X, which other applications use too—including NetNewsWire.

NetNewsWire uses WebKit to display feed descriptions, so NetNewsWire (and other WebKit-using applications) may be vulnerable to this bug.

We certainly expect that Apple will fix the bug with a security update, and that should solve the problem. In the meantime we’re looking at the possibility of fixing it just for NetNewsWire, in case Apple doesn’t come through with a fix.

For reference: here’s the report on the bug, and here’s a CNET article about it, which states that Apple is aware of the issue.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Brent Simmons at brent@ranchero.com.

Update 4:00 p.m.: it turns out it’s not just a WebKit bug, it can affect other browsers and applications which display HTML but that don’t use WebKit.

Unsanity has released Paranoid Android, a free fix for the recently discovered OS X security hole involving URLs launching helper applications. Paranoid Android monitors all URLs and allows you to prevent any unsafe ones from being opened.
