Two new how-to's are just now reaching store shelves everywhere: Chuck Toporek's "Inside .Mac" and Joli Ballew's "Degunking Your Mac,". The former is an O'Reilly publication and the latter was published by Paraglyph Press, with U.S. and Canadian distribution being handled by O'Reilly. "Inside .Mac" (384 pages, US$19.95) is a reference guide for Apple's suite of services that encompass building and managing a Web site, accessing e-mail through a .Mac account, backing up files to an online iDisk and more. Toporek guides readers through an overview of .Mac and offers a variety of tips and tricks, such as how to synchronize your Mac with your .Mac account. A sample chapter is available as a download in PDF format from the O'Reilly Web site.

Two iPod rumors in one day! AppleInsider says that the 4th generation iPod, which will probably have
a 60GB hard drive and may or may not have a color LCD
screen and double as a digital photo viewer, won’t be out until September.

Apparently Apple is a little pissy about all the news reports yesterday detailing how they had placed a big order
for Toshiba’s new 1.8-inch hard drive that can hold 60GB on it. They’re mainly annoyed because it means they can’t play
dumb when people ask them about the next iPod (since those 1.8-inch drives are what they use in them), but it’s not
like it wasn’t already pretty obvious that sooner or later they were going to come out with a 60GB iPod.

So far, Apple's Mail Appis doing a fine job of catching most if not all of the spam. Now as far as information overload, that's an entirely different story.
Think spam is bad? How about being buried in e-mails you actually want? Software developers and Internet architects meet this week to discuss how to make e-mail friendlier. By Amit Asaravala.

I’ve officially resurrected Lockergnome’s OS X Fanatics and Linux Fanatics channels. They will each be available on the Web, RSS, and e-mail once again. Gonna try something different with ‘em this time, based on Tech News Watch successes. If you want to be a regular contributor, just let me know. Good chance for name branding and link lovin’.
