Train etiquette
I don't take the train often. To be specific, my most recent trip into the city on NJ Transit was -- literally -- like, my fifth time on the train in my entire life. So I am not by any means a seasoned commuter. But is it common for people to bring food onto the train and eat it en route? I'm not talking about a muffin or a cup of coffee or something. I'm talking about hot, aromatic food. Is this accepted? These two women on my train devoured an entire order of Nathan's french fries and two gyros on one 45 minute train trip. The smell quickly became overpowering, then nauseating, on the closed, crowded, too-warm train...I wondered if everyone else on the train was as grossed out as I was. Or is this normal?
