Now listen here. Having Elizabeth Smart turn up alive is the first bit of good news we've had around here for a long time. Can we just be happy she's alive and back home with her family and quit asking why she didn't try harder to get away?
Sure, escape seems possible in the abstract -- but may have appeared far less possible to a scared fifteen year old girl who is alone with two wackos who have taken you from your bed in the middle of the night and threatened to kill you. Survival is the name of the game, not escape, under those circumstances. She did what she had to do to stay alive.
So please let's skip the Monday morning quarterbacking and let the kid start putting her life back together, shall we?
