And I thought I felt bad about killing the ants

I am a bird killer. Not an intentional bird killer, of course, and it wasn't a very big bird but nonetheless there is one less bird in the world today and it is my fault. It all happened in the blink of an eye.

I was driving Mickey to day care on the right lane of a busy two-lane road. (I was going in one direction, the other lane was going in the opposite direction.) One of those little swoopy birds swooped in front of my car a little bit ahead of me, heading for the other side of the road. Halfway across the road the little guy saw a big SUV coming and changed direction abruptly in midair...and met the front grill of my car with a bang. "Oh, Jeez!" I said. "Oh, no! Oh no oh no oh no...!" This all took just seconds and it was over before I even knew it. I felt terrible but there was literally nothing I could do to stop it...the bird really flew into the path of my car -- it's really more accurate to say HE hit ME. But it gets worse.

I pull in to the place I'm going and I see my car reflected in the glass doors. There is something stuck in the grille of my car. It is the body of the bird. The bird's mangled body is stuck in the grill of my car. THE BIRD'S MANGLED BODY IS STUCK IN THE GRILL OF MY CAR!!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!  It was one of the most awful things I've ever seen --and it was all my fault!

Thankfully one of the kind souls at the kennel extracted it for me and I went to work, feeling squeamish and guilty and trying to think of ways to apologize to God for killing one of His creatures...oh, I'm bad....bad, bad, bad...I promise to always keep the bird feeder full outside...I'll put out suet in the winter....You can poop on my car all you want....I'll put a nice birdbath outside for you....I swear I didn't mean it! It was an accident!
