Minor irritations
They are fixing my roof. Every morning at 7:30 men begin swarming over my building, climbing all over on the roof as I'm trying to get ready for work, putting ladders up to the side of the building, ripping off shingles, and leaving an enormous mess outside. They have trampled my brand new bushes and ripped my screens. They block my driveway so I cannot use my own garage. They drink from my hose, and leave empty water bottles outside. These men cannot be gone soon enough.
A deer is eating my portulacas. (Portulaca = flowers.) Not only has this very brazen deer come right up to my porch and consumed all the blooms off the plants, he leaves ENORMOUS piles of little nuggety deer poops. Do you know that deer poops strongly resemble Cocoa Puffs?
I am taking tennis lessons, and I stink. I stink because I am a beginner and I'm not all that coordinated to start with. I lose a lot. This, however, is not the irritation. The irritation is that the other people in my class are, inexplicably, much better than I am and whenever I miss a shot there is much huffing and eye rolling. This is irritating. I come home and I feel like a big doofus and this does not make me happy. I fear that soon I will explode and take my racket to one of them in an unattractive McEnroe-like display of temper.
I have been trying to get an insurance claim paid since October of last year. I have resubmitted this claim five different times to two different divisions of this same company. I've sent TWO fourteen page faxes to the insurance company. I've spent hours on the phone, talking to customer service representatives with names like Ana A. and Nicole M. (Apparently these people do not have full last names, only initials.) At this point, if you compute how much time I've spent trying to get this claim paid vs. how much I make per hour at my job, I've probably spent more trying to get the claim paid than I will get if they ever pay the damn claim. Nevertheless, I am not going to give up. I used to work for an insurance company and I know that they are doing this on purpose because they figure if they deny my completely legitimate claim enough times that eventually I will give up and go away. But I will not allow that to happen. I will get this claim paid if it is the last thing I do, mark my words.
