Every once in a while, even the most thoroughly positive thinker and chronic workaholic like myself needs something to distract him from the trials and tribulations of building software to make J2EE development easy for "the rest of us." It's always hard building software that makes something complex much easier, especially if its goals are to appeal both to Java experts on the ServerSide as well as corporate developers who want the maximum amount of built-in plumbing to get their job done. The task is made even more tricky when you deliver software that is on occasion ahead of its time, implementing design patterns that some developers haven't yet discovered and given names to just yet!

When this happens to me, I click on a special bookmark in my browser for a good chuckle at this file copy progress dialog that you won't see anytime soon on your Windows desktop.

Have a nice weekend!

Oracle Magazine has been asking me for a while if I could dedicate the time to write an ongoing column. I finally was able to clear some time in my schedule to take them up on their offer, so if all goes well my first column will appear in the January/February 2005 issue. I plan to dedicate the first few columns to helping existing Oracle Forms developers to get their bearings in the J2EE world. If you think of a topic about JDeveloper, ADF, or J2EE that you think would make a good topic for an Oracle Magazine article, drop me a line with your thoughts.

I'll be giving three talks at the UK Oracle User's Group next week.

Hope to see you there if you're planning to attend the show.
