I got an email today from a customer trying to build a simple ADF application to visualize the results of a SQL query that needed to take a bind variable as part of the select expression. He was working to build a demo to show off the BLAST data mining feature of Oracle 10g for use on stage next monday as part of his presentation to the Oracle Life Sciences User Group. He'd gotten a hand-coded JSP example working with embedded data access inside the JSP page and he'd been trying to get a similar thing working using ADF. He kept bumping his head on the part about setting the bind variable. Always a sucker for an opportunity to save the day, and after watching many of Jon Udell's screencast's also craving some good excuse to give ViewletCam a test-drive, I put together this example screencast to try and communicate the steps required to build the demo. I think I'm sold on the value of screencasts after seeing what I could do with minimal effort. Hopefully the customer will be able to show off JDeveloper's ADF in action on stage!
For JDeveloper 10.1.3, we've made capturing and setting named bind variables even easier than what's shown here using the JDeveloper 10.1.2 version.
