i have no original thoughts, though today don quixote comes to mind.

when russia was the evil empire, we didn't invade them even though they treated people badly and had weapons of mass destruction.

we finally found someone we could pick on, and now we are demonstrating our power, but the resemblance to tilting at windmills is striking.
