Today I had to repost the items I posted last evening because of the way that I was controlling my weblog from two different computers. Things seemed to work ok, but when I got in today and looked at my main machine the posts I had made from home were not there. I thought I had discovered a way to do this on Mac OX X by mounting and running the application remotely, but apperently that does not work. I have turned on and am now using the remote access feature of Radio. It works quite well, so far.

Last evening I listened to Governor Leavitt's State of the State address while driving home from work on the way to Varsity Scouts. Over all it was a well prepared, well delivered and moving address. I tuned in especially for what Mr. Leavitt had to say about education and the current state of the State budget. I was encouraged and motivated by what he said to say about the economic outlook of Utah and the changes he is proposing for Utah Education.
In a bold move the Governor and the Utah Board of Education is proposing moving away from the century old Carnegie credit system--based on credit for time sitting in a chair to a new system based on a competency-measured system and using a Weighted Competency Unit to determine the funding for education. I applaud this move and feel that it will greatly improve the quality of education and will give Utah a much needed change in values as far as education is concerned.
You can read more about the "competency standard" "Weighted Competency Unit" and the like at the Utah.gov Site.
