Chris Barrus has a bit on The CIA's animation studio. The article focuses mainly on the CIA's involvement in funding the British animated version of George Orwell's Animal Farm, but there are a number of other interesting annectdotes as well. For instance, the article, from Animation World Magazine notes:
revelations including the CIA financing the publication of several fine art books, and their using Nelson Rockefeller and the Museum of Modern Art in New York to present art exhibits of Jackson Pollock’s paintings and other abstract expressionists to counter the social realism being advanced by Moscow.
The article is a very detailed and engaging look at the people who made the film and the political and artistic choices throughout.
Perhaps the biggest change the CIA demanded was:
To meet the CIA’s objectives, the ending was changed to show that only the pigs had become totally corrupt. The film ends with other animals mounting a successful revolt against their rulers. There is no mention of the humans in the film’s conclusion.
