 It's been a while since I bought a compilation CD by News, mostly because their recent offerings don't appeal to me, but also because they have introduced an annoying copy protection on their high-profile releases.
Until this one came along. It is the second compilation in the DJ Worx series. The first one was compiled and mixed by DJ HS, Lagoa resident and notorious jumpy techno (or technoid jump) advocate. Although I like his sets in Lagoa (he isn't DJ'ing there any more), it isn't really the music I want to listen to at home. That said, it wasn't really a wonder that I hadn't heard of the DJ Worx compilations until the DJ George's edition showed up.
DJ George's is resident of Belgian's self-proclaimed (but not entirely inappropriate) temple of house, La Bush. He's pretty eclectic, playing anything from techno to house. It shows on this compilation: although most of the tracks can be firmly put in the trance category they range from true progressive (Pako & Frederik's "Beatus Possessor") to goa (Hallocinogen's "LSD") to house (Cosmos' "Take my with you").
Overall the track selection is top notch, except for maybe the Cosmos track, which seems a little out of place. The CD has a very nice flow to it and I predict I'll be listening to it for a long long time. One minor annoyance is the fact that most tracks are only played for about 4 minutes, which really is a shame considering the brilliance of some. For instance Iio's "At the end" really needs some more time to fully develop. But then again, there's only so much you can fit into 70 minutes.
So in conclusion: get this disk, you'll enjoy this excellent selection of trance for a long time to come (and it doesn't have any sort of annoying copy protection).
