about trance

I don't get it. Why are artists so affraid of mp3 and downloading. For instance take a look at this. I don't think they understand the potential the Internet offers them. Trance musicians have a pretty limited buyer and listener base (compared to for instance Britney Spears) so I would think that the Internet is an easy and cheap way for them to extend their fanbase and to get the word out.

Just look at a writer like Cory Doctorow, the guy is practically begging you to download his book. He seems to understand that it's all about exposure. Especially for the little artist.

Also check out Tim O'Reilly's article on piracy. This is a publisher that's really doing well, in spite of piracy and the bad economy.

I think this quote pretty much sums it up: "The simplest way to get customers to stop trading illicit digital copies of music and movies is to give those customers a legitimate alternative, at a fair price."

If it works for books why can't it work for music?
