Totally unrelated, except that it has moving pictures in it ;), but this is just brilliant. Via Totally Flabbergasted.

Friday evening armchair ranting session.

With broadband being available to more and more people, the recent evolution on the Internet seems to be more and more towards video, as compared to the usual text and still images and sometimes some audio. Especially when it comes to promoting or reporting on parties video seems to be the logical medium to show the world what's really happening.

Take for instance Tiesto's dj set at Aria: 3 video's are available. Since the Aria nightclub site is a miserable pop-up fest I'll give you direct links: 1, 2 and 3. Did you watch them all three in full? I doubt it. These movies are just boring and amateuristic and for me they offer very little added value over an average written report with some pictures, possibly with the dj-set playing in the background. To be totally clear, this is not just Aria, it's pretty much any party video I have seen until this date.

Only dancetrippin.tv usually manages to make their video's a bit more interesting. At least their movies usually don't look like they were shot by some drunken idiot with a camera they found at the local junk yard. And their editing and cutting is at least a bit more thought out then the average build-in cross-fade effect to connect two random video clips. Their videos clearly show some dedication in trying to capture the party.

Now for all amateur moviemakers out there, I must stress that I probably wouldn't be able to do anything better. But that's no excuse for dumping boring sea-sickness-inducing movies on us.

Again I have very little point to make in my post, but I'd like to ask every one who is considering to put a video online to just watch it one more time and reconsider whether it really adds something or is just going to be another waste of time and bandwidth.
