Long time no log entry. These are extremely busy times. Both in my personal live and in partyland. After a quiet August and a relaxed September, Ghent is once again bustling with life. On the party front, last Friday was a hard choice to make: 16 years Illusion, Bunk-tek and the 3d69 opening in Sotto's. In the end I was just too tired and decided to stay home and save my strength for Saturday. It appears I've missed a great Illusion birthday party, though :(
I like new direction and different things, so in that respect the 3d69 thing is very intriguing to me. I don't really like all the "Zillion" hype around it, because I've never understood the greatness of Zillion. It was an allright club, the music was usually survivable but what really bothered me was the lack of party vibe. But because I used to program and make my own 3D effects way back when life still meant a lot of free time, I will check it out eventually. That's how I ended up on that awful thing they call www.3d69.be. This site is a disgrace to all web designers out there (even the bad ones). It's slow, it has the worst interface ever, it's full screen only and it does not work properly with Mozilla.
Of course I went for the full monty, which, I must admit, did have the warning "HEAVY - FULL MOTION SITE" (all caps indeed) and it only took me about 5 minutes to get to something which could be labeled content: the agenda. It turns out it only has the next 2 dates and there is no list of participating clubs (none that I could find at least), so I'm not sure when and where I will actually be able to catch a performance.
As far as the visuals are concerned: they'll probably impress the average person, but I have the impression the level is about where the demoscene was 5 years ago. But I will postpone any final judgement until I actually see the thing in person.
But enough biling, there is actually a good thing about the site: the music. One of the classics I heard yesterday was actually the first track played: Billy Hendrix' "Body shine".
(BTW: if you want some of today's top productions in the demoscene, check out the Two headed squirrel or for the ultimate demoscene reference go to pouet.
