Discussions about taste are always a dangerous thing. Especially on the Internet they tend to result in flamewars sooner or later (usually sooner). I guess it's because we're not talking face-to-face.

However going back to the aforementioned thread. DJMaytag has a point: Early trance had a certain angst and rebellion, especially amongst hardtrance producers. There was a definite feeling of "I'm going to pulverize you with this music, and you're going to dance until you can't take it anymore, yet you will still dance and experience that trance-induced rush." It seems like there is more of a happy/bouncey theme in most trance these days that is all about the "trance induced rush", but it seems to come from the epic breakdown and building it all back up. Technically it's still about the same sort of feeling, but how you arrive there seems to be dratically different.

I personally really like the Age of Love track and I tend to be attracted more towards the "dark" side of electronic music. That's why my current taste is edging on the progressive side of trance. However, I don't think you can link this to age and the time that one has been "exposed" to electronic music, I'm pretty sure it's just a personal thing.

One thing seems to be clear from the discussion though: no one agrees with the original poster, so maybe he's just trolling, but the ensuing discussion was (partly) interesting anyway.
