Last night I had a revelation (again). Clubbing has changed over the last few years. It all started with a DJ and some great (and innovative, way back) music. Then people wanted lights and lasers and club owners invested a reasonable amount of money into them and everything was ok. Every week, people happily went to their club to enjoy the beats and each other.

But then it all went wrong. Club owners and party promoters thought that, for some ungodly reason, party people wanted more. Not just more and louder music, but more of anything. So the concepts of multiple rooms, multi-million dollar light and sound installations, weird and complex architecture, dancers, show acts, gadgets and all kind of extravaganza was born. Gone were the days that one DJ was allowed to entertain all people all night long. Gone were the days that money wasn't that important (sure, it has always mattered). The pinnacle of all this was probably Zillion, although Kokorico & Versuz are now carrying that torch.

The sad thing is however, that during most of the night you'll find us in the smallest room with the least lights and no show. And why is that you wonder? 2 words: vibe & music. That's really the only thing that matters and no money can fix that.

BTW: The Philippe van Mullem section won't be online tonight, I am deeply sorry.
