I guess it's about time I write a Serious Beats 44 review. Thanks to the friendly guys at dance4mation I finally got another volume of this Belgian compilation series. The last one I actually bought was 30 with Twice as Nice's Ouverture and Bedrock's Heaven Scent as some of the highlights. It was the point that I decided those compilations just weren't worth the money any more. Serious Beats is pretty much the proove that you can't satisfy every one all the time. They try to, but it's a hit and miss affaire.

Anyway, the first thing I noticed about this 44 one is the absence of a large double cd box. They now also use the single cd box that most double albums have. But that's a minor detail, the music is what counts.

So what about the music? Well, disc 1 starts strong with a new Push track and some other trancers. But then there's Ghost who apparently needs to keep on telling us that he's the guy that made the track. After that it's uninspiring until Ernesto and Bastian. Which might be an uninspiring track in and off itself, but I happen to like it for no reason in particular. Other than that most tracks aren't really worth mentioning (Loops&Things should've been left alone).

CD2 is by far the best of the 2. It starts of great with Viframa's Cristalle. Although this Katana remix sort of reminds me of some cut-down version of Airwave's Innerspace, it still is a very good song and was an instant classic in Kokorico. Airwave's Ladyblue, Antidote's Sciabada and M.I.K.E.'s Turn out the lights: all great trance. Too bad there it goes downhill from there, with music that is just not my taste (techno/jump), although The End (by Tube-Tech) did catch my attention.

Overall I have the feeling that Serious Beats still tries to please too many people and fails in pleasing any. There are good tracks on there, there are awful tracks. If you want a complete listing check the news site.
